Let’s Talk Movies: Where the Wild Things Are

Filed under: Movies — shoboink @ 2:08 am

So here I was getting my daily fix of webcomics when I passed by Joe Dunn’s site (do check the Outside the Theater portion). He talked about this up coming film Where the Wild Things Are. He had a link pointing to the movie’s trailer, decided to follow it and watched the trailer.

I’d have to admit that it got me excited. The movie’s title, if you don’t have an idea about the the Maurice Sendak book, would make you think that it’s an adult-ish suspense thriller. But yeah, it’s based on a children’s book. So expect a lot of adventure and excitement.

To give you guys a sneak peek of the movie, here’s the trailer I got from YouTube. Seriously, I am having difficulties posting the HD trailer from Trailer Addict. Tsk.

To have a taste of the children’s book, here’s a YouTube video of a narrated cartoon version:

Thoughts: On Bayani Agbayani Going Berserk

It’s very rare that you find celebrities getting into a fight with civilians where you actually side on the celebrity instead of the supposedly innocent civilian.

But after having watched this YouTube video of Bayani Agbayani getting into a fight with a civilian in Eastwood City, Libis The Fort because of a car accident, I can’t help but thinking that although Bayani was kind of drunk, he had every bit of right to go berserk about the accident. Here’s the video:

You won’t be able to see anybody in the video, but you’ll definitely recognize Bayani’s voice in there. Apparently, what happened was that Bayani bumped the car of the person taking the video. The victim’s brother-in-law apparently insulted the actor even after he apologized and agreed to handle repair expenses.

As I see, or heard from the video, a drunk Bayani got out and challenged said brother-in-law to a fist fight, to which the guy just cowers and backs off, away from the actor’s reach. After a while, when Bayani starts walking back to his car, the brother-in-law starts swearing at the actor, calling him a coward, and telling him that they should go to Crame for their fight.

Isn’t he such a coward? The brother-in-law, I mean. First, you insult a guy who’s willing to settle the accident to which he is admittedly guilty for because he’s drunk. Then you walk away when he starts challenging you to a fist fight. You challenge him to a fight when he walks away just to make you look like you’re not backing off. And then you want to go to Camp Crame to have the fight.

If you’ll read comments on the actual YouTube page, you’ll find that a lot of people are siding with Bayani. There’s no use for insults if the man is willing to settle things in nice way. Throwing insults for an accident will only lead to fist fights. And he won’t react that way if the brother-in-law didn’t say anything offensive or below the belt.

My take on this, you shame yourself, Mr. Brother-in-law. You should have just kept your mouth shut when it wasn’t your car that got hit. Tsk.

Here’s Bayani’s take on what really happened.

Thoughts: The New Facebook Layout

the new facebook layout

More and more people are voting for No on keeping the new Facebook layout. Most of the people I know don’t like it because it has become, and I quote, less stalker-friendly. Some say it has become more cluttered, a glorified Twitter layout, if I may borrow their words. The others, they just don’t like to navigate the new layout.

I remember writing a piece on Facebook (FB) a while back for my side job and I found that a lot of people found privacy a concern in FB. The live feeds tell your contacts anything and everything you’ve done on the website. This gives your stalkers everything they need to keep track of you. Now that that’s gone with the new layout, people are complaining and missing it.

Some of my friends admittedly miss this feature of FB. They get to see whether their friends (or crushes) have joined so and so group or played so and so games on FB. But I’m not such a big fan of that. Well, to each his own, right?

I can’t believe other people find the new layout too cramped up. The old homepage layout was kind of messy and cluttered for me. It goes back to the ridiculous live feed that gives me too many information that I don’t really need. Who gives a shit about how many people this user has chomped? Or who amongst your friends have given a hug, a starbucks drink, a virtual gift to someone you don’t even know? Again, to each his own.

Now learning how to navigate the new site is easy enough. You got three basic colums to see what you need to click on. (minus the live feed, thank God.) You’ll probably just use the middle and the right column since those are the ones that have the status update and the highlights.

A programmer friend has agreed that the new layout has become sleek and offers a bit more privacy than it used to. And I completely agree with him. Just because you enjoy lurking and stalking people in FB doesn’t mean the one being stalked is okay with that.

I’m not posting this to pick a fight with the anti-new FB layout. I’m just airing my side. You prefer the old layout just as how me and a few other FB users prefer the new one. Let’s put it at that. The apathetic users will burn in FB hell because they’re not helping the designers decide which layout to take. Haha.

Let’s Talk Movies: Blood: The Last Vampire

So there I was going around checking up on my daily webcomics list when I came across Multiplex and found Gordon Macalpin talking about a new anime-turned-live action movie.

Ladies and gentlemen, a trailer of Blood: The Last Vampire.

At first, I thought the girl looks a lot like Jeon Ji Yun from My Sassy Girl. Checked the credits list in the movie’s imdb page and found that the lead was played by Gianna Jun. Upon further checking, I found out from wikipedia that they were one and the same. Aliases. Bah.

But yeah, trailer looks good. And finally, an Asian to play an Asian role. Haha.

What do you think of the trailer? Will you watch it? Any ideas when this movie will air in the Philippines? Or if it will even be aired here?

Coming Soon: Up

Filed under: Movies — shoboink @ 5:28 am

Thanks to Mr. Joe Dunn of Joe Loves Crappy Movies (a webcomic I follow), I got to see this upcoming Pixar movie titled Up. The trailer got me all excited. Adventures in the wilderness is just something that gets me going. Although I think I’ll never get to experience one. Haha.

Without further ado, I give you the trailer of Up.

I seem to be having problems embedding the HD trailer from Mr. Dunn’s site so I took one from YouTube instead.

Something Interesting: Hidden References in Watchmen

Filed under: Movies, Trivial — shoboink @ 3:42 am

Thanks to Lynski over at Plurk for sharing this neat site.

So I’ve watched Watchmen with the boyfriend last Saturday and really found the movie entertaining. Like Lyn, I found myself liking Rorschach more than any of the other heroes. Who wouldn’t? He seemed to be the only one who knew how to act the part of the character they were supposed to portray.

Let’s not get into that. As what the title says, there have been many hidden references squeezed into the movie because they only had limited time.

One of which was the opening credits where the original Nite Owl punched the hell out of some burglar, saving two innocent civilians. If you look at the poster behind him, you’ll see that it’s a Batman poster.

Do you see it?

And then there’s the retirement banquet for the Minutemen. Now that I’ve taken a good look at it, it does look like The Last Supper. Take a look.

There are still a lot more items and references that they tried to subtly include in the movie just because there wasn’t enough time. If you’d like to see the other hiden references, you might want to drop by the io9 website.

Thoughts: On Taking Photos

Being the visual person that I am, I have always been fascinated with photos. It is for this reason that I take photos for fun. Admittedly, though, I am not that good.

I know I take decent photos, but never the kind that turns people’s heads. I wish I did know how to, though. But that’s wishful thinking. Personally, I think my photography’s turning for the worse.

I blame a lot of things, mostly myself – lack of discipline, shaky hands, etcetera. Also, rolls are expensive, let alone having the films processed and scanned. So yeah, I don’t take as much photos. If I do, they’d probably spend a long time in the shelf, waiting for enough money to have them processed.

Let’s get over the rant part and get to the part where I point you to a set of photos I was lead to while I was surfing Tumblr. I definitely suggest that you people visit here and here.

I especially love this:

Death Devices: Long-drop Gallows

Anybody watched last night’s episode of Machines of Malice? I think I only got to watch the latter half of the show. The part I saw started at the long-drop gallow.

Well, to start off, the long drop gallow was slightly different in the original deisng in that calibration is required before the actual execution. The height and the weight of the person to be executed is taken into consideration so as to prevent decapitation or a failed attempt that leads to death by slow choking. The knot of the noose is situated above the left ear.

According to the people who explained this death device, the length of the cord, the length of the drop, the placing of the noose’s knot, all play their part in making the death quick and painless.

They further explain that death by long drop gallow is by far, the fastest way to execute a criminal. It takes about 15 to 25 seconds for the execution to be done, which is pretty much the time it takes for the criminal to walk out of his cell and into the gallow area.

Apparently, if you ate too much and the cord is too short, there is a possibility of complete decapitation. Not a good way to die, by my opinion. The other scenario was that the prisoner may have a muscular neck and fail to break or sever from the drop, this will lead to a couple of minutes of flailing for breath, all the while dying a slowly from choking. Ack! Ack!

Anywho, the point of this is, how would you like to die? Fast and painless? Slow and embarrasing? Headless? Haha. I’m morbid this way, I know. But yeah, some of the other death devices in my next post. :D
